Ever since I stumbled across the pilot episode of Adventure Time on YouTube a few years back, I’ve been wishing and hoping for it to become a real show. On April 5th, Cartoon Network finally made my wish come true.

What is Adventure Time exactly? It’s basically like someone shook me upside down and the contents of my brain fell all over the floor and transformed into this show. It’s the most fun you’ll have watching a cartoon in a really long time. It’s 30 minutes of pure, silly fun mixed together with complete ridiculousness and a sprinkle of math humor. Adventure Time is technically a cartoon about a boy (Finn) and his dog (Jake) who go on adventures, but it’s so much more than that. They explore strange lands with even stranger characters. They save princesses from evil Ice Kings, because stealing ladies to force them to marry you is wrong. They travel through dark forests to help sexy adventurers find crystal apples. They make sure that Lumpy Space princesses make it to the Promcoming dance on time and still manage to make it home lump free.

If you like laughing and getting in touch with your silly side, make sure to check out Adventure Time on Cartoon Network. New episodes air Monday nights at 8pm. Finally, something to cure that terrible case of “The Mondays” you’ve been carrying around with you for years.

MATHEMATICAL!

Inspired by the latest creation over at Snack or Die, I decided to spend part of my Saturday afternoon making these adorable Kirby cupcakes. My version is slightly different, as I use white cake instead of strawberry, and mine also have frosting. Both the cake and frosting are colored with 3 drops of neon pink food coloring.

Check out my tasty, pink, Kirbylicious cupcakes…

Cooling Pink Cupcakes

Yummy pink cupcakes made with nothing more than white cake mix, Sprite Zero, and food coloring. At this stage they’re a low fat treat with not too much sugar. They’re also great for Vegans since no eggs were used in the process of making this tasty snack.

Shoes Not Included

The original recipe at Snack or Die uses red M&M’s as shoes. I forgot to pick them up at the store, so I improvised, giving some of my guys shoes using the same red gel icing as I used for their mouths. I also made some without shoes as well. They’re kickin’ it and relaxin’ in the back.

Whether you prefer Kirby with or without shoes, there’s no denying that this is one of the cutest cupcakes you’ll ever consume!

Lennon and McCartney may have believed that “all you need is love”. Whether or not that may be true, what I learned last weekend at the New York Comic Con is “all you need is geek”…

My first Comic Con turned out to be everything I had hoped for and more. I had been wanting to go check it out for a few years now, despite the fact that I don’t actually read comic books, and I’m incredibly happy that I finally ended up going. My lack of interest in comic books didn’t really even matter at all, because my love for gaming, art, design, webcomics, and toys ended up being perfect for a casual trip to the Con.

It was really wonderful to just take a step back from reality for a weekend, and while doing so, realize that the geek community is one of the most incredible, tight-knit communities I’ve ever had the opportunity to be a part of. To see all of these people come together and be passionate about the things they love was just completely life altering to me. I know that sounds totally corny, and I know it wasn’t more than just a silly comic book convention and not like an AIDS Walk or something, but is was seriously amazing to me. From professionals to fans, you could truly feel the love and excitement buzzing around you at all times.

I got to meet a bunch of really awesome people, fellow geeks, and even one of my heroes. It’s unbelievable how everyone is so open and kind and just as excited that you’re a fan who is into their work as you are as a fan – excited to meet someone who’s work you follow. I have to admit, the comic/gaming community was extremely refreshing to me. Everyone was super modest and friendly. It’s rare to see people openly acknowledge to their fans “I wouldn’t be here without you”. People can be so egotistical when they’re in the spotlight, but I didn’t see anything like that at all at the Con.

To sum it all up, here’s some shouts to a few hella awesome people I met last weekend – thanks to them all for making my first Comic Con and amazing one!

1. Tabbed Browsing-
I’m not quite sure how the internet existed before tabbed browsing, but I’m completely thankful that it was finally invented. I’m incredibly happy that I cannot remember the time of my life where my internet experience consisted of a mess of “New Windows” all over the screen or constantly pressing the “back” button. I am also incredibly fond of tabbed chatting as well. I enjoy not having to move a billion IM windows all over my screen while talking to people. Tabs. They’re good for you.

2. Gmail-
The best e-mail service of all time, hands down. Gmail is actually one of my favorite things ever invented, not just in terms of the internet or e-mail providers, but just as a whole. I remember the days of my AOL account, and am extremely happy that those days are long gone. I’ve checked out Yahoo and Hotmail just to see the competition, and I really just cannot see how people are using them. They’re clunky, they’re disorganized, and they’re awful.

3. Music-
Music has gotten me through the ups, downs and in-betweens of the last 23 years of my life, and I’m sure that it will continue to get me through the next 50+. Even though the music industry has gone terribly downhill in the last 10 years (probably longer than that, but I’m cutting them some slack), there will never be a day in my life that music does not affect me in some way.

4. Boston-
I’m not sure what it is about this city, but there’s something about it I feel truly connected to. Coming from New York, most people find my Boston love a little strange. But it’s my happy place, my thinking place, and just an adorably cute city. I’ve considered moving there more and more in the last year or so, and I would absolutely love for that to happen, even for a short period of time.

5. Augusten Burroughs-
I was a little late to jump on the Augusten Burroughs bandwagon, but now that I’ve read his stuff, I feel incredibly connected to him. His writing is amazing, his attention to small detail is impressive, and he’s just so REAL. His writing has changed the way I feel about certain things, view certain things, and has made me feel better about some of the things I feel and think on an everyday basis. He changed my life, and I’ve officially made a lifelong commitment to him, as I recently got a tattoo that includes a quote of his. “I myself am made entirely of flaws, stitched together with good intentions.”

6. Nintendo DS-
Probably my favorite gaming console thus far (And I’ve been playing since NES, and have played Atari and Intellivision in my life as well), the Nintendo DS has brought me so much joy since getting one something like 3-4 years ago. Since then, I’ve purchased/received something like 25+ games, almost all of which have been highly entertaining and had amazing replayability. Those traits are hard to find in games these days, and I haven’t been so happy with a gaming system since the original Game Boy. I love my Wii as well, but my Nintendo DS is like my best friend. I take it everywhere with me, and I play it almost every single day. I’m extremely happy they keep pumping out games for it, because it’s truly one of the best things Nintendo has ever done. I’ve always been a Nintendo gal, so you may think I’m biased, but I will happily admit that if the DS was put out by Sony or Microsoft or any other brand, I would still love it just as much.

7. Peppermint Hot Chocolate-
There’s nothing a little peppermint hot chocolate can’t fix.

8. Kids-
I’ve always been fond of kids, but now that I work closely with them on a daily basis, I don’t know what I’d do without them. They are truly amazing creatures, and they brighten my every day. I’ve learned that doing as little as just listening to what they have to say or talking to them when they want your attention, goes such a long way. I’ve got a whole troop of kids who think I am the greatest person on Earth because I virtually high five them on a daily basis, and laugh when they’re being silly. It’s amazing. They’re so brilliant and creative and wonderful, and I don’t want a single one of my own.

9. Geeky T-Shirts-
Because I just wouldn’t be me if didn’t own some of my geeky/funny/silly/cute t-shirts. If I couldn’t walk around in a t-shirt that said “YAY IT’S BROCCOLI” with a large, smiling piece of broccoli on it or my Cogito Ergo Nom shirt that no one on earth understands, I just wouldn’t be Kelly. I’m currently working on a design for a “My daddy doesn’t let me date boys who don’t use Gmail” shirt. I can’t wait to finish it up and order it.

10. Food-
I’ve become a real foodie over the last few years, and I love expanding my palate and trying new things. Exploring/finding new restaurants is one of my passions, and I wish I had a foodie companion to come on my adventures with me, because I’d probably go on more of them. I can’t go a day without watching Food Network or researching which of my favorite chefs have opened new restaurants. When I’m going to a new city, I am most excited about being able to explore what that city has to offer foodwise.

I just pre-ordered my copy of The Sims 3, and it can’t possibly get here soon enough. I shelled out the extra 20 bucks for the Collectors Edition, which isn’t even really that much cooler, but I’ve been a sucker for The Sims since day 1, and I just felt like I needed to have it. (Plus, who doesn’t want a Plumbob USB keychain?)

I’ve been pumped about The Sims 3 pretty much since the The Sims 2, and I hoped and prayed that they would one day make an even better, cooler edition of this game. My prayers were answered, and in 15 days, I’ll finally get to play!

It sounds like EA really worked hard on TS3, made some absolutely necessary changes, and I’ll definitely be posting a review once I can pull myself away from playing.

It’s a shame I don’t get paid vacation, or else I’d definitely take a week off to play!

Plinky.com is a brand new social networking/micro-blogging site that is actually both unique and entertaining. I give Plinky a lot of credit, seeing as most new micro-blogging sites these days don’t really bring anything new to the table, they’re just carbon copies of the already existing ones. Plinky is as easy to use as Twitter, and definitely tons of fun.

Basically, Plinky offers you a list of “Prompts”, which are questions for you to answer. All you have to do is type in an answer, submit it, and you’re done! It’s just as addictive as those silly online survey things that everyone is always posting in Facebook notes or on their LiveJournals, but it adds more to the experience. You can follow people’s answers, pick favorites, and even add your Plinky responses to your Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, etc.

It’s definitely worth a look.
